Elections are over, but the fight goes on

by Alison Whelan on 21 May, 2015

The results of the election were perhaps a fair distance from the result we would all like to have seen, but that is the nature of democracy.

There are always successes to look at and seeing 5 members of the Liberal Democrats elected to the City of Ely Council was a surprise.  Something that seems to have upset some people.  I have spent the last year feeling alone as the only person on the City Council who is not a member of the Conservative party, or sympathetic to their policies, but now I will no longer be on my own.

Perhaps more amazing was the stream of emails, phone calls and even personal callers when I failed to gain a District Council seat: people concerned that I will stop fighting to improve the failings in previous developments and to prevent the same things happening again as the City grows.

Of course, not being elected to the District Council is just a minor set-back,  It will not stop me trying to secure the best for Ely and for it’s people.  We have many projects on the horizon and making sure these are successfully delivered and that they bring improvements to the people of Ely is paramount, even from outside the Council Chamber.

I will continue to stand up for the people of Ely.

In closing, I would just like to say one thing to the people who voted for me:

Thank You
