Heaton Drive Planning Application

Further development of the former MOD site near the Princess of Wales Hospital is proving to be a little unpopular.

The development will see 53 properties built, primarily on the open green space and former children’s play park.

The planning application shows 286 comments and when you read them, the majority are clearly opposed, with only some of the statutory consultees not objecting.

The aplication will be coming to planning committee for detemination, but there are a number of matters to be resolved first including contributions that the builder will make towards such matters as schools and affordable housing.

Such a development matters because it is taking away public green space that we so desperately need, but also because the developer is, in reality, East Cambridgeshire District Council – who have just granted themselves permission to build residential properties on the former Paradise Pool site despite extensive opposition and also on Barton Road car park that they built on previously.

The planning authority is the same person who wants to build: how are we supposed to believe they are doing the right thing, or even treating themselves in the same way as others.
