Businesses Forced to Close – Grants Now Available

by Alison Whelan on 11 November, 2020

The Local Restrictions Support Grant has been created to provide support to businesses where the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has required the closure of their business under regulations made in response to the threat posed by SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19).

To be eligible for the grant, firstly organisations must be included within the list of business set out by central government that are required to close during the second national lockdown.

Organisations currently choosing to operate as a takeaway, click and collect or online with delivery services will be counted as closed due to the substantive business still being required to close (does not apply to businesses whose sole model is as a takeaway).

The amount of funding awarded is based on the rateable value of the business’ premises on 5th November 2020 and subject to eligibility criteria.
Businesses forced to close that have premises with a rateable value of £15,000 or below will receive a one-off grant of £1,334. Those within the rateable value of £15,001 and £50,099 will receive a grant of £2,000. Businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or above will get a one-off grant of £3,000.

If a business that is required to close by government but continues to operate in-person services and successfully applies for a grant, the grant may be recovered, and the business referred for enforcement action under public health legislation.
